Website Maintenance Frequently Asked Questions

The website core, themes and plugins can be enabled to automatically update. Why do we need you to do these?
Whenever an update is issued, especially for the core or a major plugin, it is wise to wait for the best time to perform the updates. This is to allow time for the developer of each component to revise their codes and make them compatible with the latest changes. If updates are performed too soon or if they were automatically updated the moment a new release is issued, it could potentially break the website. You may have to follow or watch out for news from the developers to know when is the best time. To be on the safe side, Jade does not enable automatic updates. If there is a major release, a back-up is taken first.
Can I do the maintenance myself?
Yes you can, IF your website is independently hosted, but it's probably not worth it. Aside from updating the core, themes and plugins, from time to time you will need to upgrade the PHP too. That is done via cPanel. You will have to learn to do all these.
If you really want to do it yourself, Jade can assign all website notifications to your email address so you can keep track of what needs to be done as well as any security reports, etc.
All websites hosted by Jade will have to subscribed to the 'Webcare-Maintenance service' for a small yearly fee.
Why do you charge such a low fee for maintenance?
Most of Jade's clients are small businesses, sole traders or start-ups. The maintenance fee is at an affordable rate and it should not be a hindrance to keep the websites up-to-date and as safe as possible.
